How We Keep Your Data Secure

  • Regular Backups: We maintain frequent backups of data.
  • Access Control: Emergence Field Labs staff access to data is strictly limited and monitored to prevent unauthorized access.

Your Data, Your Control

  • No Third-Party Sales: We never sell your data to third parties.
  • Functional Cookies Only: We only use cookies to deliver the functionality of the platform, not for third party tracking or advertising.
  • Strong Authentication: Researcher accounts require strong passwords and two-factor authentication (2FA) for added security.
  • Account Deletion: Researchers may delete their account and all associated data (e.g. research data).
  • Control of Your Data as a Survey Participant: Survey participants may request their data be deleted on Emergence Field Labs if they are part of a longitudinal study. It is not possible, by the nature of the survey, to delete individual data received through surveys that anyone can answer. Always be sure to read any policies Organizations provide before taking a survey to understand how researchers will use data taken off of the Emergence Field Labs platform.

Responsible Data Practices

  • No Production Data in Testing: We never use live data for testing environments.
  • API Protection: We enforce API rate limits to prevent abuse and attacks.
  • Logging & Monitoring: Our systems maintain detailed logs to detect and respond to security threats.
  • Vulnerability Identification Program: Ethical developers can report vulnerabilities in good faith, helping us improve security.

For Organizations: How You Can Help Protect Data

  • Data Minimization: Only collect survey data that is critical to your needs. Do not collect Personally Identifiable Information, which is currently not supported on our platform.
  • Surveys Anyone Can Answer: Use surveys that anyone can answer (not longitudinal) whenever possible.
  • Build Your Own Policy: Researchers can add their own policy that a survey participant must agree to before taking the survey. Clearly explain how the participants data will be processed, stored, and what control they have after taking the survey.
  • Children's Privacy: Our services are not intended for use by children under 16 years of age or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction. We will remove data if we believe it contains personal information from a child under the age of 16, abiding by law and regulation.
